Kosovo - organised crime and political involvement

E-mail Print PDF

2 May 2011

The role of EULEX mission is to assist the Kosovar institutions, judicial authorities and law enforcement agencies in their progress towards sustainability and strengthening an independent judiciary system and the customs service. The key priorities of the mission are to strengthen the fight against corruption and organised crime.

From the hearing of senior EULEX representatives at the European Parliament on 15 March, it appeared evident that EULEX is not performing its mission in a satisfactory and effective way. Little or no detailed investigation has been carried out into organised crime and its connections with the representatives of political institutions. Consequently, a large number of crimes may well be continuing to go unpunished.

What measures will the Commission take to change this example of inefficiency and waste of EU taxpayers’ money?
