Motion for a resolution on the situation in Egypt and Syria, in particular of Christian communities

E-mail Print PDF

Thursday, 27 October 2011 - Strasbourg

Explanations of vote:

Motion for a resolution B7-0542/2011

Pino Arlacchi (S&D ), in writing . − I voted for this resolution because, as freedom of religion and thought are universal values and essential elements of democracy, I believe it is important to take a clear position on what is happening in Egypt and Syria. Egypt is a key partner of the EU in the Arab world, and this text expresses our deep concern about the violent incidents of 9 October 2011, during a peaceful march organised by Coptic Christians in Cairo, which resulted in the death of 25 persons and 300 people being injured.

Report on Global Economic Governance

E-mail Print PDF

Tuesday, 25 October 2011 - Strasbourg

Explanation of vote:

Informe: Gunnar Hökmark (A7-0323/2011 )

Pino Arlacchi (S&D ), in writing . − I voted for this report because effective global economic governance would make it possible to minimise the negative effects of globalisation, such as rising inequality and the destruction of the environment. In particular, I support the idea of reconsidering the use of ‘special drawing rights’ (SDRs) as a possible replacement for the dollar as the world’s reserve currency. This measure could be a starting point in helping to stabilise the global financial system. The International Monetary Fund should explore further allocation, as well as broader use, of SDRs, in particular for the purpose of enhancing the multilateral exchange rate system.

Motion for a European Parliament Resolution on the 4th High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness

E-mail Print PDF

Tuesday, 25 October 2011 - Strasbourg

Explanation of vote:

Informe: Cristian Dan Preda (A7-0313/2011 )

Pino Arlacchi (S&D ), in writing . − I voted for this text because it clearly stresses the need for the EU to adopt an ambitious position at the 4th High-Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness. The Forum is a key moment and is expected to map out future commitments aimed at making development aid more successful and to help build up a new international aid architecture in order to achieve the Millennium Development Goals by 2015. Unfortunately, the previous high-level conferences failed to produce the necessary political pressure or a legally-binding framework.

Motion for a resolution on the situation in Palestine

E-mail Print PDF

Thursday, 29 September 2011 - Strasbourg

Explanation of vote:

Motion for a resolution B7-0525/2011

Pino Arlacchi (S&D ), in writing . − I hope that this Resolution will have unanimous consensus as the right of Palestinians to self-determination and to have their own state is unquestionable. The EU has repeatedly confirmed its support for the two-state solution, on the basis of the 1967 borders. For this reason the EU and its Member States must be united in addressing the legitimate demand of the Palestinians to be represented as a state at the United Nations.

Explanation of vote:

Report: Gabriele Zimmer (A7-0284/2011 )

Report on ‘Towards a stronger European disaster response: the role of civil protection and humanitarian assistance’

E-mail Print PDF

Tuesday, 27 September 2011 - Strasbourg

Explanation of vote:

Report: Elisabetta Gardini (A7-0283/2011 )

Pino Arlacchi (S&D ), in writing . − I voted for this Resolution because it underlines the vital need to reinforce the coordination of the response to disasters affecting the European Union, both within and outside its borders. Unfortunately in the past years there has been a dramatic increase in the number and severity of these natural and man-made disasters affecting the Union and its citizens, as well as other countries and regions around the world.

Report on financing of reinforcement of dam infrastructure in developing countries

E-mail Print PDF

Tuesday, 27 September 2011 - Strasbourg

Explanation of vote:

Relazione: Nirj Deva (A7-0213/2011 )

Pino Arlacchi (S&D ), in writing . − This report is important because I value its aim to find a comprehensive and transparent evaluation of the full range of options available to reduce the impacts of floods and meet water and energy needs. Despite the billions of dollars spent on flood management on the past years, globally, no other natural hazard has cost more human lives or proved more destructive to property than floods.

Report on a New Trade Policy for Europe under the Europe 2020 Strategy

E-mail Print PDF

Tuesday, 27 September 2011 - Strasbourg

Explanations of vote:

Report: Daniel Caspary (A7-0255/2011 )

Pino Arlacchi (S&D ), in writing . − I voted for this report because the Union needs a coherent long-term trade strategy in order to take account of the major emerging countries. Such a strategy should be based on a thorough analysis of the current trends in world trade, the Union’s internal and external development as well as the diversity of European enterprises.
