The aim of this ALDE seminar is to raise awareness of the relationship between the financial crisis and criminal activity both within and outside Europe.
"World financial crisis boosts organised crime" was the alarming message spread by the UN in July of this year. This was a warning that organised crime is using its financial resources to penetrate legitimate areas of the economy that are in need of liquid assets. Other recent studies have also reported that economic recession has encouraged criminals to explore new business opportunities.
The main speakers are leading European experts on crime who will put forward their views on the darker dimension of the crisis and identifying solutions to avoid it.
